Mirror Work: The Inner Dialogue of 5 Seconds of Summer is an experimental songbook that translates the psychological process of introspection into a tactile, multi-layered experience. Covering tracks from Australian pop rock group 5 Seconds of Summer and their solo releases, the design concept centers on the interplay of texture and clarity, utilizing blurred imagery and rhythmic repetition to mimic the hazy, recurring nature of memory and internal thought. By integrating translucent materials like sanded acrylic and vellum paper, the book serves as a physical metaphor for looking inward, requiring the viewer to peel back semi-opaque layers to uncover the core lyrical messages beneath. This visual identity oscillates between harmony and tension, employing a structured system of medium and condensed sans serif typefaces that occasionally collide and overlap to reflect the friction of a crowded mind. The project captures the volatile path toward self-awareness, using their music as a roadmap for navigating the complexities of grief and emotional recovery.
